Grandma Zullinger’s Peanut Butter Bars

My college roommate and one of my best friends, Lori Dawson (nee Zullinger) grew up in Shippensburg, PA. When we would visit her family her Grandma Zullinger would make up the BEST authentic Pennsylvania Dutch treats. I remember eating these huge sugar cookies . . . like the size of a dessert plate!  . . . and her whoopie pies were to die for . . . but its her peanut butter eggs that we’ve adopted into our family Easter traditions.  It’s a whole family project . . . well, most of us. And I’ll even share the recipe! Thanks, Grandma Z!!

Hard to resist . . . those chips were calling to Caroline, and she was trying to wait so patiently, but she could only do it for so long!

Give a girl a rubber mallet and watch the giggle fly.
Of all my kids, Tim loves to create wonderful things in the kitchen. Someday, I think he may be famous chef.
William get the muscle building job of mixing all the ingrediants.
And, Lily, volunteered to be the taste tester.
Pretty yummy! We all agree
Peanut Butter Eggs
16 oz. peanut butter 1/2 lb butter
Box of 10X sugar 16 whole crushed graham crackers
Mix all together and form into egg shapes
Topping: 1-2 c. semi sweet chips 3/4 c. peanut butter
microwave 30 sec. at a time until smoothe, and dip eggs w/ 2 toothpicks as holders
Double the recipe for bars!!
There were five of us gals from York College of PA and Fenwick Island, DE that still spend time together . . . and I think that each of our families makes these peanut butter bars at Easter time!!!  Yummy. treat.

Oh my goodness… must make these… and did – SO YUMMY (and easy!) When my Mom travels to visit friends and family, I have a ‘tradition’ of sending my Dad a “bachelor care package.” I included these delicious treats in his last package and he raved about their goodness! YUM! D–
