Date Night . . . Smaldone Style . . .

He vowed to eschew women. Period. He prayed that if God wanted him to pursue another woman, she would fall right into his lap.

She did. Literally. Fresh home from college, she tried to squeeze by him to find her seat at the Glens Falls, NY church they both attended. Lost her balance. Fell right into his lap. And that was that. That was sixteen years ago next weekend.

Theirs is a love affair that is lovely to behold. They both love being married, work at being married, and are one of the best endorsements for the institution that I’ve ever seen. Skip and Donna have two grown children, a son in South Carolina and a daughter in New York, and they have weathered the empty nest pretty attractively. Although their lives have not been without bumps, Skip and Donna choose to focus on the joy. And boy do they make life look good.

Eighteen months ago, they were remarried in an intimate vow renewal ceremony at their home. So, we thought it would be fun to do a “who says marriage is old hat?!” photo session. What a great session. Carl came along to “egg on the lovebirds,” which, by the way, needed little egging.

See if you can find the photo for the moment that I suggested, “Now, can you two do a little dance?”

Best part. We went back home after the shoot and grilled some dogs on the deck. Skip and Donna wound up the kids to warp speed, gave hugs and drove off into the sunset. That’s real friendship.

I love these shots, because you can see the love and affection that Skip and Donna have for one another. Marriage is a beautiful thing.  Click on the link at the end of this blog to view their slideshow.
